Ratastega Raamatud bookshop started as a dream to do something different. I've always wanted to have a bookshop but I didn't want to create just any other shop, I wanted something more. I want to be surrounded by books, talk to other reading enthusiasts, spend time reading. I definitely didn't want an online shop, it feels so impersonal.
When I started this business, I knew it wasn't going to be a money-making machine and it wasn't the point either. It's a hobby like any other. The revenue generated from events (barely) cover the cost of fuel and the merchant tickets of the events.
Very soon I realised that this is turning out to be a VERY expensive hobby. There are many running costs that I didn't think about when starting this business - website upkeep, van insurance, taxes, storage room rent etc.
This is when I realised that I cannot continue this way but I also didn't want to give up on the dream of creating something cool and allowing people to purchase books for a reasonable price.
Solution: online shop. Having revenue all year round, not just during the summer months when I can take the van out to events, helps cover running costs and keep this business going.
So, dear reader and bookshop customer, you now know why this e-shop is up and running and if you feel like purchasing a book, I am extremely grateful. You are helping this initiative to stay alive!
